LTL — You Pay for the Space
Your Cargo Actually Uses
Less Than Truck Load (LTL) road freight — also known as part load transport, shared truck transport or groupage freight in India — is the cost-efficient solution for businesses that need to move cargo across India without filling an entire truck. Your consignment is consolidated with other cargo heading in the same direction — you pay only for your share of the truck space. TTI Shipping & Logistics is a New Delhi based LTL freight provider coordinating shipments through a trusted pan-India road freight partner network.
LTL is ideal for regular smaller shipments — post-customs clearance inland delivery, inter-city distribution, factory-to-warehouse transfers and regular replenishment runs.
LTL vs FTL — Which is Right for You?
LTL — Part Load
- Below 10 to 12 tonnes per shipment
- Pay only for space used
- Consolidated with other cargo
- 1 to 2 days longer than FTL
- Best for regular smaller consignments
FTL — Full Truck Load
- Above 10 to 12 tonnes per shipment
- Flat rate for entire truck
- Direct — no consolidation
- Fastest road transit
- Best for large or time-critical loads

LTL Freight India —
Questions Answered
What is LTL freight in India?
LTL — Less Than Truck Load — also called part load or shared truck transport in India — is road freight where your cargo shares a truck with other shippers' cargo. You pay only for the space your cargo occupies — making it significantly more cost-efficient than hiring a full truck for smaller shipments.
How is LTL freight pricing calculated in India?
LTL freight in India is priced per tonne or per CBM — whichever is greater. This is the W/M basis. For dense cargo — steel, machinery — weight determines the rate. For light bulky cargo — furniture, packaging materials — volumetric weight will be higher and determines the rate.
How long does LTL delivery take across India?
LTL transit adds 1 to 2 days compared to FTL due to consolidation and sorting. Delhi to Mumbai LTL takes 3 to 5 days. Mumbai to Bangalore takes 3 to 5 days. Chennai to Hyderabad takes 2 to 3 days. Short-haul routes under 500 km typically deliver in 1 to 2 days.
Is LTL safe for fragile goods?
Yes — when cargo is properly packed and marked as fragile. TTI advises on correct packing requirements for fragile goods in LTL shipments. For high-value fragile cargo — dedicated FTL transport is recommended to eliminate multi-handling at consolidation points.
LTL vs FTL — which is cheaper for India road freight?
LTL is cheaper for shipments below 10 tonnes — you pay per tonne rather than for the whole truck. FTL becomes cheaper above 10 to 12 tonnes where the per-tonne rate drops below LTL consolidation rates. TTI calculates both options and recommends the most cost-efficient solution for your specific shipment.
